As part of a commercial program under Philadelphia Gas Works, we were able to win the bid to replace two very outdated standard hydronic boilers with two new High-Efficiency Well-McLain Evergreen commercial boilers.

A challenging part was to evaluate a real heating need for the building and provide the building owner with a very detailed Manual J calculation to make sure that the new system is properly sized. As we found out that the existing boilers were hugely oversized and therefore wasting even more precious fuel.

So after a rigorous review, our manual J was confirmed. We not only saved building owners money by installing very high-efficiency boilers, but also saved money because now the system was properly designed and there was almost no waste of fuel. Typical challenges for projects like this is a removal of the existing boiler, which is usually very large, and also timing to make sure that the building does have heat when the heating season starts. Which as always, we were able to do both. We completed the project on time and on budget. With the help of our commercial hydronic installation team, as well as the engineers from Weil-Mclain provided some very clever assistance and guidance in this unique project.
